Postdoctoral Research Fellow, KPSC Maternal and Child Health Research The Department of Research & Evaluation (R&E) at Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with an interest in maternal and child health research. This two-year fellowship is designed to prepare the selected candidate for a productive career as an independent researcher. The fellow will collaborate with R&E research scientists, Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG) physicians, and multidisciplinary research teams. The position offers professional development opportunities through manuscript preparation, presentations at national scientific conferences, and participation in research proposal development. KPSC is a leading integrated health care system serving more than 4.5 million racially and ethnically diverse members throughout Southern California. Researchers have access to a comprehensive Research Data Warehouse that combines curated electronic health record data from inpatient and outpatient care with data from external registries and claims. Available data include membership, health care utilization, vital signs, laboratory results, and pharmacy records. Successful candidates will be creative, highly motivated, and able to conduct research both independently and as part of a collaborative team and will possess: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree, preferably in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field Demonstrated interest or experience in maternal and child health research A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals Strong quantitative, analytical, written, and oral communication skills Incumbent serves as a researcher on projects based in the Department of Research and Evaluation (R&E). Works under the supervision of a R&E Research Scientist. Designs, develops, and directs well-defined research with supervision from a R&E Research Scientist. Prepares grant proposals and publications independently and collaboratively. Provides consultation and direction to programmer/analysts with regard to data management and analysis strategies. May perform subject assessments or chart reviews or provide direction to research support staff performing these tasks. Submits abstracts to and presents papers at national scientific meetings. Seeks consultation from research scientists for specific scientific and administrative issues. Participates in R&E department meetings and projects as appropriate.
Experience: N/ACurrent, or anticipated in the next year, a doctoral degree (Ph.D, Dr. PH, MD, Sc.D) in epidemiology, health services research, economics or related field or similar degree designation, OR a clinical doctoral degree plus a masters degree with formal research training.
Note: Start of employment contingent upon verification of Doctoral degree and/or official transcript. Competent in advanced research methods, including statistical techniques and study design commonly used in epidemiologic, behavioral, health services research, economics or related fields. One year, renewable (funding and performance dependent) training position. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Track record of publication in the peer-reviewed literature and grant-writing experience.
