The Prince George's County Department of the Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Equipment Operator II, grade A15 position, in the Sustainable Waste Management/Bulky Section. Incumbent of this position operates light and heavy refuse collection vehicles including 29-cubic yard packer trash trucks, roll-off vehicles and open body collection vehicles and is responsible for daily supervision and operational direction of Laborer(s) I/II assigned to the vehicle. Work is performed under general supervision of the Crew Supervisor II and is periodically inspected for efficiency of operation, supervision of the assigned work crew and adherence to good safety practices and procedures. This position is designated "essential" in accordance with DoE Instruction 110.4.The Department of the Environment works for a healthy, beautiful, and sustainable County through programs that provide clean water, flood control, recycling and waste management, litter prevention, sustainable animal management, and pet adoption in partnership with residents and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year as an Equipment Operator I with Prince George's County Government. OR High School Diploma or G.E.D.Two (2) years of experience operating light to heavy power equipment.
A valid Class A, Class B, or equivalent commercial driver's license (CDL) with mandatory endorsements is required upon appointment in order to perform job-related duties and responsibilities.
Successfully complete equipment/vehicle performance testing for equipment/vehicles associated with this class of work.
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam.
Must be willing to respond to emergency service calls on a 24-hour basis.

The Prince George's County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31. A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse. Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). New employees must enroll in the County's health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date. The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
