About the role
The Hydrogeologist Associate (Surface Water) position supports the Arizona Department of Water Resources' Statewide Planning Permitting Division by providing technical expertise in processing and evaluating surface water right applications and claims, with emphasis on instream flow and transfer applications. The role conducts field investigations, analyzes water resource data, ensures regulatory compliance, and may serve as a technical witness in hearings. The position is hybrid (primarily remote within Arizona with minimum 2 days per week on-site in Phoenix) and involves leading multi-disciplinary projects and supervising junior staff.
Key qualifications:
Ten years of professional-level water resource management experience, or Bachelor's degree and eight years experience, or Master's degree and six years experience, or Doctorate and four years experien
Knowledge of water resource planning, surface water statutes, streamflow measurement techniques, and groundwater-surface water interactions
Skills in preparing technical reports, field investigations, geospatial data analysis using GPS and surveying equipment
