About the Company: Vangst is partnering with a growing cannabis manufacturing company in Scottsdale, AZ, to hire a Cost Accountant.
About the Role: Cost Accountant This is an in-office individual contributor role supporting the Finance team in a manufacturing, production, and inventory-driven environment. The Cost Accountant will play a hands-on role in standard costing, inventory valuation, COGS analysis, margin analysis, and financial reporting. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cost accounting professional who enjoys working closely with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain and wants to have a direct impact on financial accuracy and business performance.

Compensation: $100,000–$120,000 base salary DOE

What You'll DoCost Accounting & Inventory Maintain standard costing methodologies across manufactured and purchased inventory. Perform inventory valuation across raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods. Conduct monthly cost rolls and reconcile standard-to-actual cost variances. Monitor and report on COGS accuracy across product lines. Reconcile inventory accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Margin & Variance Analysis: Analyze margins, costs, and variances to identify key cost drivers and profitability trends. Investigate and explain material, labor, and overhead variances. Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities. Provide financial insights that support operational and business decisions.
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Prepare month-end journal entries related to COGS, inventory reclassifications, and cost adjustments. Support month-end and year-end close activities. Ensure cost and inventory data is accurate and available on a timely basis for financial reporting. Assist with reconciliations and resolution of accounting discrepancies.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain to ensure accurate cost data flows into financial systems. Support physical inventory counts and cycle counts. Assist Finance leadership with ad hoc cost analysis, reporting, and financial projects. Serve as a key accounting partner to operational teams.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Required Skills: Hands-on cost accounting experience in a manufacturing, production, or inventory-based environment. Strong experience with standard costing, inventory valuation, COGS analysis, and margin/variance analysis. Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and/or NetSuite strongly preferred. Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze and manipulate financial data. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in a regulated industry is a plus. Cannabis industry experience is a significant differentiator, but is not required.
