About the role

The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis will partner closely with the CFO, executive leadership, and Board committees to strengthen the organization’s FP&A capabilities. This mission-driven nonprofit role in Boston, MA (hybrid) focuses on budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, financial modeling, and long-range planning, with direct influence on strategic decisions through performance insights and scenario analysis. Reporting into leadership and guiding the FP&A function, the Director will oversee both annual and multi-year financial planning while building tools that support organization-wide decision-making. The position also includes leading and developing FP&A staff and serving as a trusted advisor across departments and governance.
Key Responsibilities: Lead annual operating and capital budgeting, rolling forecasts, and multiyear financial planning Develop complex financial models, scenario analyses, and business cases to support strategic initiatives Evaluate actual results versus budget, forecast, and prior-year performance to surface risks and opportunities Create KPIs, benchmarking, and reporting tools that improve decision-making across the organization Assess the financial impact of new programs, exhibitions, capital investments, revenue opportunities, and operational initiatives Act as an advisor to the CFO, executive leadership, department heads, and Board committees while leading the FP&A team
Qualifications: 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning Experience working within a mid-to-large nonprofit organization Familiarity with endowment accounting and restricted and unrestricted funds Strong financial modeling and long-range forecasting experience, including scenario analysis and advanced Excel skills Experience supporting executive leadership and presenting financial information to Boards or governing committees Proven ability to hire, develop, coach, and lead staff Tools Excel Compensation and Location

Salary: USD150,000–200,000per year
