About the role
Join us in Simpson Community Shelter's kitchen to help prepare and serve nutritious, chef-led meals that nourish both body and spirit. Volunteers work alongside our shelter chef to cook, serve, and share meals that reflect the cultures and dignity of our community. Volunteering is simple, meaningful, and donation-based — your group's contribution directly supports high-quality ingredients for each meal. Chef-planned menus — no shopping or prep needed Two volunteer shifts available: Lunch: 10:30 AM–1:00 PM Dinner: 5:30–7:30 PM Staff support to guide food safety and logistics Shared costs ensure consistent, nourishing meals for guests By volunteering, you're not just serving food — you're building community and helping create a space of warmth, dignity, and connection for shelter residents. No prior cooking experience needed.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
