About the role

BTEL specializes in installation, maintenance and engineering of modern fiber optic and communication networks. The locator position is responsible for locating and marking underground utilities such as telephone, cable TV and fiber optics. Thoroughly search the designated areas to accurately mark locations. Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors and operate independently. Use specialized equipment, maps, and records to ensure accurate identification of utilities. The overall goal is to protect vital infrastructure during construction and other maintenance activities.
Primary Responsibilities: Ability to locate buried telephone, TV cable & fiber optics Ability to use company provided locating equipment and technology Marking areas with proper paint, flag and markings Respond to 811 locate tickets within required timeframes Ability to read mapping systems Perform other work-related duties as assigned Communicate with construction crews, contractors, and homeowners Ensure safety of the public and utility underground facilities
Required Job Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license with a clean driving history Ability to stand on your feet up to 8 hours per shift and walk all types of terrains Must be able to work alone and independently Must be able to work emergency schedules Commitment to abide by OSHA and all other safety standards and procedures Required Job Skills Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills Strong Communication Skills including written/verbal communications Sound judgment and decision making Ability to remain efficient in a fast-paced environment
