Experience supporting approximately 4,000 employees across multiple locations strongly preferredFULL DESCRIPTION:We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Director to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of a complex, multi-facility payroll function within a large healthcare organization. This role will oversee payroll operations supporting approximately 4,000 employees across seven locations, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, regulatory compliance, system integrity, audit readiness, strong internal controls, and exceptional employee service. The ideal candidate will bring significant healthcare payroll experience, advanced ADP Workforce Now expertise, strong California wage and hour knowledge, and a proven ability to lead high-volume payroll operations across multiple entities and facilities.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Providing strategic leadership and oversight of payroll operations across multiple healthcare facilities and entities
Directing payroll processing for approximately 4,000 employees across seven locations
Ensuring timely and accurate processing of regular payroll, off-cycle payroll, bonuses, final pay, and other payroll transactions
Maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Ensuring compliance with California wage and hour laws
Maintaining compliance with payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements
Leading payroll audits, reconciliations, balancing, and reporting activities
Reviewing payroll results for accuracy and identifying discrepancies before final processing
Overseeing payroll system administration and workflow integrity
Managing payroll system access and user controls
Maintaining strong payroll governance and internal controls
Developing, implementing, and maintaining payroll policies and procedures
Identifying payroll discrepancies, compliance risks, and operational gaps
Developing and implementing corrective actions when payroll issues are identified
Driving payroll process improvements and operational efficiencies
Partnering closely with Human Resources regarding employee data and payroll-impacting changesPartnering with Benefits to ensure accurate deductions, leave administration, and benefit changesPartnering with Finance regarding payroll taxes, audits, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Supporting wage and hour audits
Supporting payroll tax audits and internal compliance reviews
Serving as a senior payroll resource for executive leadership
Providing guidance regarding payroll strategy, workforce impacts, and operational risk
Supervising, mentoring, and developing payroll team members
Establishing expectations for accuracy, accountability, responsiveness, and customer service
Evaluating payroll workflows and identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement
Maintaining confidentiality and security of payroll and employee information
Supporting payroll-related projects, implementations, acquisitions, and system upgrades
Monitoring payroll performance across multiple facilities and entities
Ensuring consistent payroll practices and procedures across locations
Supporting leadership with payroll reporting, analytics, and operational insights
Building strong collaborative relationships across Human Resources, Finance, Benefits, Operations, and executive leadership
Traveling between healthcare facilities and corporate locations as business needs require
Performing other payroll leadership and strategic initiatives as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:7+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience required
Healthcare payroll experience required 3+ years of payroll experience within a healthcare environment strongly preferred

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred 10+ years of advanced payroll leadership and operational experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
Certified Payroll Professional certification preferred
Ability to successfully complete required background and drug screening
Ability to work onsite at corporate headquarters in Corona, CAAbility to travel periodically between healthcare facilities throughout the Inland Empire and Orange County
Potential hybrid flexibility may be available based on business needs and successful integration into the role
Ability to work Monday through Friday approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with additional availability as required for payroll deadlines and leadership responsibilities
Physical Requirements:- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while reviewing payroll registers, reconciliations, tax reports, audit documentation, spreadsheets, system data, and related records
- Ability to communicate by phone, email, virtual meeting, and in person throughout the workday
- Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data analysis, reporting, document review, and standard office tasks
- Ability to review detailed payroll reports, spreadsheets, compliance documentation, system records, and computer screens for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout corporate and healthcare facility environments as needed
- Ability to travel periodically between corporate headquarters and healthcare facilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, accuracy, organization, and attention to detail while managing complex payroll operations and sensitive employee information
- Ability to work effectively within professional healthcare and corporate environments
Salary Range: $140,000 to $185,000/year
