About the role
Why You Want To Work Here We are seeking a motivated and self-directed Business Development Representative to join an established organization. The company is a national distributor and direct marketer of plumbing, heating, hardware, maintenance, and other MRO products serving commercial and institutional customers. This is a territory-based business development role focused on growing customer relationships and identifying new opportunities within an assigned market. You will work directly with both new and existing customers to understand their needs, introduce products and solutions, and help grow the business.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing commercial and institutional customers. Identify and pursue new business opportunities through prospecting, cold calling, qualified leads, referrals, and relationship development. Conduct in-person customer meetings and sales presentations throughout an assigned territory. Learn about customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions. Introduce and demonstrate new products to customers and communicate their value and applications. Manage and grow an assigned territory by developing new accounts and expanding existing customer relationships. Work toward individual and team sales goals while consistently following up on opportunities. Stay current on existing and emerging products, technologies, and industry trends through training, meetings, sales events, and other resources. Address customer questions, identify challenges, and provide solutions that support customer needs. Partner closely with Sales Management and internal Support teams to provide a strong customer experience. Provide customer and market feedback to Sales Management and Marketing to support future promotions, products, and business initiatives. Complete sales reports and other management reporting as requested. Attend sales meetings, training sessions, industry events, and customer meetings as needed. Travel throughout an assigned geographic territory and occasionally travel overnight. Use a personal vehicle for business travel.
Requirements:
2–5 years of experience in business development, outside sales, territory sales, account management, customer-facing sales, or related experience. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout an assigned territory. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with a variety of customers. Comfortable prospecting for new business and initiating conversations with prospective customers. Ability to conduct effective sales presentations and product demonstrations. Strong listening, problem-solving, negotiation, and closing skills. Self-directed and organized, with the ability to manage a territory and prioritize multiple opportunities independently. Strong customer service skills and a consultative approach to understanding customer needs. Ability to work effectively with both customers and internal teams. Goal-oriented and motivated by growing business and developing customer relationships. Willingness to travel throughout an assigned territory and occasionally overnight.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, industrial, construction, facilities, or a related industry. Experience selling technical, industrial, MRO, or other business-to-business products. Mechanical aptitude or experience troubleshooting products or equipment. Previous experience managing a sales territory or developing new business. Experience working with commercial, institutional, contractor, or other business customers.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
