Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Electrical Connectors Binghamton, NY (remote with travel) | $100,000 to $130,000 per year | Full-time A connector manufacturer with an engineering center in the Binghamton, New York area is hiring a Senior Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of electrical connector products. This is a remote, direct-hire position with about 20% to 25% travel to the Binghamton site. The role takes connectors from concept through production launch, covering injection molded components, contact systems, and electromechanical assemblies. It also includes mentoring junior design engineers. Schedule Full-time, remote, with about 20% to 25% travel to the Binghamton, NY area. Compensation$100,000 to $130,000 per year.
What You'll Do: You will lead the mechanical design and development of electrical connector products, from concept through production launch. You will design plastic injection molded components, contact systems, and complex electromechanical assemblies. You will create and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation in SolidWorks and ePDM.You will validate designs using FEA, Moldflow, and tolerance stack-up analysis. You will develop and maintain BOMs, ECNs, specifications, and test plans. You will work with manufacturing, quality, and test teams to bring products into production, and support root cause investigations and continuous improvement using Lean tools such as A3.You will also mentor junior design engineers and provide technical guidance across the team. Required
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field 5+ years of product design experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Direct experience designing electrical connectors, such as circular, rectangular, high-speed, or fiber optic connectors
  • Experience with connector contact system design, plating, mating cycles, and reliability
  • Strong experience designing plastic injection molded components
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and ePDMExperience with FEA and Moldflow analysis
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Experience mentoring less experienced engineers
  • Ability to travel about 20% to 25%Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MIL-spec or other industry-standard interconnect systems
  • High-speed interconnect or signal integrity design experience
  • Experience with Lean problem-solving tools, such as A3 and root cause analysis
  • Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation
