Employment Type: Full-Time The Volunteer Services Department advances the organization’s development and engagement goals by creating meaningful opportunities for key stakeholders to connect with its mission. Through hands-on volunteer experiences and community engagement initiatives, the department deepens relationships with existing supporters while creating pathways for new stakeholders to become more meaningfully involved. By aligning organizational needs with volunteer and donor interests, the department uses service as a tool to strengthen individual and institutional investment in the organization’s work. The Director of Volunteer Programs and Fulfillment Centers works closely with the Managing Director of Development and Community Initiatives to design and implement engagement opportunities for donors, prospects, and other stakeholders. The Director will manage three direct reports responsible for facilitating volunteer programs and fulfillment center operations. A key component of this role is overseeing daily operations and ongoing expansion efforts at a Midtown Manhattan fulfillment center, while leading expansion efforts in the Bronx and the development of a future Bronx fulfillment center.
Duties and Responsibilities: Lead the organization’s volunteer engagement strategy, developing programs and experiences that deepen relationships with donors, prospects, corporate partners, and community stakeholders. Oversee the planning and execution of volunteer and engagement events across the five boroughs and through regional expansion. Oversee operations and engagement at the Midtown Manhattan fulfillment center and lead the continued expansion of the organization’s Bronx presence, including the development and operation of a Bronx fulfillment center. Manage and mentor the Volunteer Programs and Fulfillment Centers team, establishing priorities, delegating responsibilities, and ensuring successful execution across programs and locations. Represent the organization at community events, volunteer programs, donor engagements, and speaking opportunities across the Tri-State area. Work closely with the Managing Director of Development and Community Initiatives and broader Development Team to create volunteer and engagement opportunities that support donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising goals. Build and maintain strategic service partnerships with corporations, schools, nonprofits, and other community organizations, identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and expand engagement. Design and oversee large-scale volunteer programs, including program concept, logistics, staffing, supplies, vendor management, and coordination with internal teams. Work horizontally across social service programs, Food Programs, Development, and other departments to develop and execute initiatives where volunteerism, community engagement, and development intersect. Develop and manage an annual calendar of volunteer and engagement opportunities aligned with seasonal needs, agency priorities, and development opportunities. Oversee fellowship, internship, and service programs that expand volunteer and programmatic capacity. Develop strategies for volunteer and donor recognition and work with the Development Team to create pathways for continued engagement. Oversee key vendors, contracted event staff, budgets, and other resources supporting volunteer programs and fulfillment center operations. Ensure appropriate staffing and operational support for volunteer projects across all regions. Perform additional responsibilities as required.
Competencies: Background in strategy, planning, and event facilitation. Strong attention to detail, organization, and project management skills. Self-starter with demonstrated initiative and ability to anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and take ownership of new responsibilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong public speaking and presentation skills. Strong relationship-building skills with donors, prospects, corporate partners, volunteers, and community stakeholders. Experience developing and executing events, volunteer programs, and engagement opportunities. Strong people management skills with the ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff. Skills and Education Required Bachelor’s Degree required.5+ years of experience in development, donor relations, corporate engagement, nonprofit events, community engagement, and/or volunteer management. Demonstrated track record of successfully managing and mentoring a team of staff and overseeing multiple programs or workstreams. Experience developing engagement opportunities that support donor cultivation and stewardship. Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage both strategic priorities and day-to-day operations across multiple locations. Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working effectively with diverse populations.
Special Requirements: Frequent travel throughout the five boroughs and Tri-State region with program supplies utilizing public transportation. Consistent evening and Sunday work required. Increased involvement based on seasonal agency needs, including food distributions and increased programming during high-volume periods. Flexibility to support other special events and organizational initiatives as needed.
