About the role
Life Enrichment Director / Programming Director
Charter Senior Living of Calumet Trace | Owensboro, KY
$20.00/hour | Full-Time
Monday–Friday + Manager-on-Duty Rotation
Bring the Energy. Create the Fun. Make Our Community Come Alive.
Charter Senior Living of Calumet Trace is looking for a high-energy, creative, and outgoing Life Enrichment Director who knows how to turn ideas into experiences residents genuinely want to be part of.
We're not looking for someone to simply fill an activity calendar.
We're looking for someone who can bring LIFE into the community.
Someone who walks into a room and brings energy with them. Someone who gets to know residents personally, discovers what excites them, and creates programming that gets people out of their apartments, connecting with one another, laughing, participating, and looking forward to what's happening next.
Calumet Trace is ready for fresh ideas, renewed energy, and someone who wants to put their own stamp on the community.
If you're the person who is always thinking, “Wouldn't it be fun if we...” and then actually makes it happen—we want to meet you.
Our Three Must-Haves
High Energy & Engaging
You bring positivity, enthusiasm, and FUN to the environment around you.
You're comfortable getting people involved, starting conversations, leading a room, and encouraging residents to try something new.
Creative & Action-Oriented
Having great ideas isn't enough.
We're looking for someone who can take an idea from “What if?” to “Let’s make it happen.”
You can plan, organize, communicate, and execute experiences that residents and families remember.
Resident-Focused Relationship Builder
You genuinely enjoy spending time with seniors.
You'll get to know residents as individuals—their interests, histories, talents, preferences, personalities, and passions—and use those relationships to create meaningful experiences.
What You'll Own
As Life Enrichment Director, you'll have the opportunity to take ownership of resident programming and help create the energy residents, families, and visitors experience when they walk through our doors.
You'll:
Develop and lead a vibrant Life Enrichment program
Create a calendar residents are genuinely excited about
Plan social, recreational, educational, physical, spiritual, and creative programming
Develop programming around residents' individual interests, abilities, and preferences
Personally lead activities and engage residents throughout the community
Increase resident participation and help residents become more connected
Create special events, themed experiences, celebrations, entertainment, and outings
Build excitement around upcoming programs and events
Develop opportunities for residents to contribute their own talents, interests, and ideas
Build strong relationships with residents and families
Support and coordinate volunteers, entertainers, community partners, and outside resources
Manage programming supplies and department expenses
Maintain activity calendars and required documentation
Partner with other department leaders to create community-wide experiences
Support resident and family satisfaction
Help strengthen community culture and associate morale
Partner with Sales & Marketing to showcase programming to prospective residents and families
Support events and experiences that help differentiate Calumet Trace in the local market
Participate in the community's Manager-on-Duty rotation
We Need More Than Activities—We Need Engagement
A packed calendar doesn't necessarily mean residents are engaged.
We want someone who asks:
Are residents actually participating?
Are they connecting with one another?
Are we offering things they care about?
Does the community feel energetic and alive?
What haven't we tried yet?
You’ll have the freedom to bring fresh ideas and rethink what Life Enrichment can look like at Calumet Trace.
That might mean introducing new clubs, outings, competitions, resident-led programs, community partnerships, intergenerational experiences, themed events, educational opportunities, entertainment, wellness programs, or something we haven't even thought of yet.
We want your creativity.
What You Bring
Required
Previous senior living experience
Previous experience with activities, programming, Life Enrichment, recreation, resident engagement, or a related area
Genuine passion for working with seniors

Ability to independently take an idea from planning through execution
Strong organization and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple events, projects, and priorities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Positive, solutions-focused attitude
Willingness to participate in the Manager-on-Duty rotation

The Person We're Looking For
You'll probably thrive at Calumet Trace if you:
Have the kind of personality that naturally gets people involved
Aren’t afraid to be a little silly and have fun with residents
Walk through the community and actually know residents by name
Notice when someone isn't participating and take the time to find out why
Constantly think of new things residents might enjoy
Don’t need someone else to tell you what to do next
Can turn creative ideas into organized, successful events
Build relationships with families and associates—not only residents
Are comfortable being visible throughout the community
Bring solutions instead of waiting for someone else to solve the problem
Understand that Life Enrichment plays an important role in resident satisfaction, community culture, and occupancy
Want a role where your impact will be noticed
Why Calumet Trace?
This is a role where you can make a real, visible impact.
We’re looking to boost resident engagement and community morale, and you’ll have the opportunity to help lead that transformation.
You’ll have the freedom to bring fresh ideas, new experiences, energy, and creativity into the community while receiving support from community and regional leadership.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take ownership of Life Enrichment, help strengthen occupancy and morale, and truly put your stamp on the community.
When residents start coming out of their apartments because they don't want to miss what’s happening—that’s success.
When families walk in and feel the energy—that’s success.
When prospective residents tour and can picture themselves becoming part of the community—that’s success.
And when residents tell you, “That was so much fun—when are we doing it again?” that's exactly what we're looking for.

Bring Your Ideas. We'll Give You the Opportunity to Make Them Happen.
If you're a creative, energetic senior living professional who loves seniors, builds relationships naturally, and knows how to turn ideas into action, we'd love to meet you.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
