Role Description:
The Heavy Tow Truck Operator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Flagstaff, AZ. In this role, the operator responds to dispatch calls to tow and recover heavy vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, and large commercial units. Daily tasks include inspecting and operating heavy-duty tow trucks, securing loads, performing safe hook-up and unhook procedures, and documenting each job accurately. The operator communicates clearly with dispatch, customers, and authorities, follows safety protocols, and adheres to traffic and transportation regulations. The role also involves basic truck maintenance checks, keeping equipment clean and ready, and providing courteous, professional service during roadside assistance and recovery operations.
Qualifications:
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record and experience operating heavy-duty vehicles. Knowledge of towing, recovery, and load-securing techniques, including use of winches, chains, straps, and safety equipment. Ability to read and follow safety guidelines, traffic laws, and company procedures, with strong attention to detail. Good physical condition with the ability to work outdoors in varying weather, lift heavy equipment, and perform manual tasks safely. Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful roadside situations. Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Basic mechanical knowledge for conducting pre-trip inspections and reporting maintenance issues promptly. Previous towing, trucking, or heavy equipment operation experience preferred; relevant certifications or training in towing and recovery are a plus.
