Position: Family History Internship (Student Assistant)

Schedule: 10 - 15 hours a week; between 8am-5pm Monday through FridayFriday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 for the Barbara J. Brown Family History SeminarLocation(s): Archives of Michigan702 W. KalamazooLansing, MI 48915 Description: Assist reference staff in shelving library and archival materials. Assist in providing archival reference services. Learn common family history research methods using primary and secondary sources at the archives. Inventory original materials. Outcomes: This internship offers the chance to develop historical research skills by researching requests made to the archives by the public as well as the interns' own family history. This includes using descriptive tools and historical analysis of secondary and primary material. This intern will have opportunities to learn about reference services, historical research, and outreach.
Qualifications: Current enrolled in high school as a junior or senior or current enrollment as an undergraduate in a college or university. Interest or experience in genealogy Interest or experience in historical research Interest or experience in library or archival shelving Comfortable presenting to a group Attention to detail and careful handling of historical materials Good time management skillsJob Types: Part-time, InternshipPay: $18.00 per hourAbility to Commute: Lansing, MI 48915 (Required) Ability to Relocate: Lansing, MI 48915: Relocate before starting work (Required)
