Utilizing advanced paving machinery and leading crew members in both English and Spanish, you will ensure field work satisfies strict Caltrans specifications, nuclear gauge density requirements, and target profit margins. If you bring 5 or more years of heavy civil paving experience, strong bilingual leadership skills, and a safety-first mindset, BRIXCO Construction provides top-tier Bay Area compensation, a company vehicle with a fuel card, and a steady year-round project pipeline.
Key Responsibilities: Field Operations Command: Supervise and sequence daily field operations for asphalt paving—including subgrade grading handoffs, cold milling, tack coat application, mat paving, rolling patterns, joint construction, and compaction density control. Quality Control & Material Yield Supervision: Audit real-time asphalt delivery temperatures, mat thickness, material yield, mat smoothness, and compaction procedures to ensure full compliance with Caltrans and municipal engineering specs. Logistics & Resource Architecture: Schedule and optimize daily allocations for paving crews, hot mix asphalt (HMA) plant orders, haul trucking fleets, rollers, and specialized trade subcontractors. Bilingual Crew Mentorship & Direction: Direct, train, and mentor on-site field crews in both English and Spanish—translating complex civil specs into clear daily production goals while fostering a safety-first culture. Civil Plan & Spec Interpretation: Read, navigate, and build directly from complex civil engineering drawings, grading plans, paving grids, and municipal spec books across active jobsites. Safety & Traffic Control Oversight: Conduct mandatory daily safety briefings (toolbox talks) and enforce strict OSHA and Caltrans traffic control compliance—including mobile lane closures and certified flagging operations. Daily Administrative Quantity Tracking: Track and submit daily field logs—including hot mix tonnage tickets, labor hours, equipment utilization rates, and completed yield metrics for accurate billing and job costing. Seal Coating & Striping Management: Oversee specialized slurry seal, seal coating, and thermoplastic pavement striping operations to deliver pristine finished projects. What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications) Required Superintendent Tenure: Minimum 5 years of verified professional experience in heavy civil paving and highway construction, with at least 2 years operating successfully as a Field Superintendent or Lead Paving Foreman. Mandatory Bilingual Fluency: Complete verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish to ensure crew safety, precise communication, and field coordination. Technical Paving Mastery: Deep operational knowledge of asphalt laydown procedures, compaction mechanics, asphalt plant logistics, cold milling, seal coating, and thermoplastic striping methods. Civil Blueprint Literacy: Advanced ability to read, navigate, and execute directly from civil engineering prints, structural specifications, and layout grids. Logistics Command: Proven track record coordinating heavy paving equipment maintenance, haul trucking logistics, plant delivery timing, and trade subcontractors. Mobility & Permit Flexibility: Valid Driver License with a clean, insurable driving record, along with the flexibility to work night or weekend shifts required by municipal paving permits and traffic closures. Preferred Regional Regulatory Literacy: Working knowledge of Caltrans Section 39 asphalt specifications, Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) guidelines, and local Bay Area municipal public works standards. Safety Credentials: Active OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification or Traffic Control Technician/Supervisor credentials.
