About the role
Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital Externship The Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital (WECH) externship is designed to provide practical and hands-on private practice veterinary experience to all veterinary students in a supportive environment. The externs gain exposure in equine internal medicine, surgery, imaging, sports medicine and reproduction with our hospitalized cases. Our field veterinarians also offer additional services in emergency medicine, wellness, sports medicine, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, regenerative therapies and alternative medicine. The guidance of multiple veterinarians and a large support staff enables the student to be completely involved in daily operations. Students will leave WECH with a solid understanding of private equine practice and knowledge of future careers in equine veterinary medicine. Externs are invited to apply for a year-long internship program upon graduation from veterinary school. On-site housing is provided and allows students to be involved in cases throughout the duration of their visit. The clinic is located on 26 acres midway between Milwaukee and Madison and 90 miles north of Chicago.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
