About the role

Cable Installation Technician Temporary Position The Cable Installation Technician supports the installation, routing, termination, testing, and maintenance of structured cable systems in commercial, industrial, and government facilities. The technician will work under the direction of a senior technician or project supervisor and will be responsible for installing CAT5e/CAT6 network cable pathways, J-hooks, conduit, connectors, and related infrastructure. Located in Fort Benning, GA. This temporary position is a 9-month contract with the possibility of extension into a permanent, full-time role. Install, route, support, and dress CAT5e and CAT6 network/data cable. Install and maintain cable pathways, including J-hooks, Cable tray, Raceway, Wire basket, Surface-mounted pathways Install EMT and other approved conduit systems for low-voltage cabling. Install conduit fittings, connectors, couplings, supports, and related hardware. Pull and route network cable through conduit, pathways, ceilings, and other designated spaces. Terminate CAT5e/CAT6 cable using appropriate connectors, keystone jacks, patch panels, and other termination hardware. Install and label data outlets, faceplates, patch panels, and network cable. Perform basic cable testing and troubleshoot continuity or termination issues. Read and follow cable schedules, drawings, floor plans, installation details, and work instructions. Measure, mark, drill, and install cable supports and pathway hardware. Cut and install ceiling and wall access panels as required to support cable installation. Work above suspended ceilings and in tight or difficult-to-access areas. Perform basic demolition and restoration associated with cable installation. Maintain clean and organized work areas and properly secure installed cabling. Follow project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable electrical/low-voltage installation standards. Follow all company, customer, jobsite, and safety requirements. Assist senior technicians with troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and system upgrades. Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and installation supplies. Document completed work and report installation issues or field conditions to the supervisor. Must have previous hands-on experience installing CAT5e, CAT6, or similar structured cabling. Must have experience installing J-hooks and cable support systems. Must have basic experience installing EMT conduit and conduit fittings. Must have experience terminating network/data cable and installing connectors, jacks, or patch panels. Must have the ability to use basic hand and power tools. Must have the ability to read basic construction drawings, cable plans, or installation diagrams. Must have the ability to work from ladders and lifts and perform work above ceilings. Must have the ability to safely use drills, saws, fish tapes, cable pulling equipment, and other installation tools. Must have the ability to lift and carry cable, tools, ladders, and installation materials. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must have the ability to work independently when assigned tasks and effectively communicate with senior technicians and project management.13 years of low-voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, electrical, or construction experience. Experience working in the Department of Defense, federal, commercial, or other controlled-access facilities. Experience with government construction projects. Experience reading construction drawings and cable pathway plans. Experience using cable testers/certifiers. Experience installing fiber optic cable or fiber pathways. OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification. BICSI training or certification. Experience with Fluke or similar cable testing equipment. Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance. Occasional travel- 10%The position requires the ability to: Work on ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms. Work above suspended ceilings. Work in crawl spaces, mechanical spaces, and other confined or restricted areas. Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach. Lift and carry cable reels, tools, equipment, and materials. Perform repetitive pulling, routing, cutting, and terminating activities. Work indoors and outdoors and in varying environmental conditions.
