Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced GIS Technician for an in-house position based in Morgantown, WV. This role supports day-to-day geospatial production, data maintenance, and mapping needs, working closely with the GIS Applications Specialist and other team members. The GIS Technician will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date GIS datasets, producing and updating maps, responding to internal requests, and supporting consistent data management across projects. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented GIS professional who enjoys working with geospatial data and contributing to a collaborative, project-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities: Edit and maintain GIS layers, including land tracts, lease boundaries, and index datasets. Perform routine updates to spatial and attribute data in accordance with established standards. Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness across production layers. Create basic exhibit maps for internal departments and external partners. Prepare maps for land, title, and operational workflows. Develop standardized map templates and layouts as needed. Fulfill day-to-day GIS requests from Land, Title, and Operations teams. Serve as the primary GIS point of contact for the Morgantown office. Respond to mapping, data export, and spatial information requests in a timely manner. Export GIS data for brokers, consultants, and external partners. Generate tables, shapefiles, PDFs, and other required deliverables. Ensure appropriate data formatting and consistency prior to release. Coordinate with the GIS Applications Specialist on data standards, workflows, and priorities. Follow established GIS procedures and documentation. Identify data issues and escalate system-level concerns as needed.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field, with 2–5 years of experience performing GIS production tasks. Proficiency with Esri GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro and/or Arc Map), with experience editing spatial data and producing cartographic outputs. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy, along with excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple requests and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting land, title, or asset-based GIS workflows. Familiarity with enterprise GIS environments (Specifically Portal/AGOL)Experience working with parcel, lease, or tract-based datasets. Why Pursuant?
