Design the Roadways That Keep Communities MovingGPI is seeking a Highway Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation team in Melville, NY. This is an exciting opportunity to work on roadway, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects for NYSDOT, municipalities, and local agencies while collaborating with experienced engineers in a dynamic, employee-owned firm.
Responsibilities: Prepare roadway and highway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, grading, drainage, and traffic control plans. Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses. Coordinate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary design teams. Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews. Support the preparation of engineering reports, permit applications, and construction documents. Participate in client meetings and agency coordination efforts.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.3+ years of highway, roadway, or transportation design experience. EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain preferred. Experience with NYSDOT standards, specifications, and design procedures preferred. Proficiency with Micro Station/Open Roads Designer; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus. Knowledge of roadway geometry, drainage design, traffic control, and utility coordination. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a team environment. Why GPI?
