Location: Washington, District of Columbia Hiring Path: Fed Internal Search Number of Openings: Many Security Clearance: Sensitive Compartmented Information The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.
Key Responsibilities: This position is located within the Containment Emergency Response Division (CERD), Operational Services Bureau (OSB). CERD provides specialized response capabilities for events that require heightened protective measures. As a CERD Sergeant, you will: Perform tactical operations to safeguard Members of Congress, employees, and visitors to the U.S. Capitol Grounds. Provide leadership and supervision to Technicians during tactical operations. Respond to the scene of a critical incident to assess the totality of the situation and coordinate team response. Coordinate any additional resources required for the safe resolution of a critical incident. Work rotating shifts as assigned by the CERD Commander to properly oversee operations and manage day-to-day scheduling and activities. Complete Incident Support Plans for congressional delegations (CODELs) and special events. Perform other duties and projects assigned by the CERD Commander. Perform administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plan, schedule, and assign work to subordinates. Provide advice, counsel, and instruction to foster an inclusive team environment. Conduct written evaluations related to performance and conduct. Take appropriate commendation or corrective action and effect disciplinary measures as appropriate. The results of this vacancy announcement selection process will be used to fill many positions within the OSB-CERD. More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement. The selection list for this vacancy announcement will be active for a period of 24 months from the date of approval of the selection memorandum.
