Description of Work
This position focuses on operating and maintaining the steam generating boilers that supply the Center with essential services. The role supports daily steam production needs and helps keep equipment functioning safely and efficiently. As a Utility Plant Operator 2, you will perform the following duties:
Boiler Operation: Operate and maintain steam generating boilers to meet steam demands
Equipment Monitoring: Check pumps, fans, compressors, and related equipment to ensure proper function
Water Testing: Test water softness and chemical levels and make adjustments to stay within required limits
Record Keeping: Record plant operating conditions and maintain usage and production logs
Maintenance Tasks:
Perform repairs, install equipment, and complete preventive maintenance assignments
Emergency Support: Operate emergency generator systems and drive state vehicles to collect needed parts or supplies
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
The following shift is available: Relief Operator – Swing shift between: 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM), 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM), and 3rd shift (11:00 PM to 7:00 AM). You will work Sunday – Saturday, with rotating days off and no unpaid lunch break. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
Overtime: As needed
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or
One year of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.
Special Requirement:
You must be in possession of an active ClassC motor vehicle license.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
