About The Role:
Blacksmith Agency builds websites and marketing programs for clients across the US. As Design Systems Lead at Blacksmith, you own how our client design systems get built. You take a brand and a few reference sites, then extract the pattern into a working system: tokens, variables, modes, and core components a build pipeline can execute without asking you questions. Precision is the job.
This is a senior, systems-first seat. Not one-off pages, not maintenance. You stand up new systems fast and get them right the first time, across several client brands at once.
What You Will OwnBuild token architecture in Figma using variables, modes, and semantic naming our pipeline can read predictably.
Ship core component libraries that hold up across an entire site, not just a homepage.
Document the system so a developer or an automated pipeline can execute it without questions.
Work across several client brands at once, each looking distinctly different, with the same structural rigor.
What You Bring 4+ years designing for the web, with real design system work in your portfolio.
Fluency in Figma variables, component properties, auto layout, and variants. Actual architecture, not just tidy files.
A portfolio where the work looks different from client to client but the rigor underneath is the same.
Strong English and overlap with US business hours.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
