About the role

Senior Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development Austin, TX - On-Site - Direct Hire Ashton North is partnering with an established, growing manufacturing company in Austin to identify a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in hands-on new product development (NPD). We're looking for someone who loves creating new products, taking ideas from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. This is not primarily a management position. Approximately 75% to 80% of the role involves hands-on engineering and new product development, with opportunities to provide technical leadership to a small engineering team.
What You'll Do: Lead new product development from initial concept through production launch. Design mechanical and electromechanical products incorporating motors, sensors, and electronic controls. Develop 3D CAD models, prototypes, engineering drawings, and BOMs. Perform product testing, troubleshoot designs, and improve performance and reliability. Collaborate with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
What We're Looking For: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 10+ years of engineering experience with significant hands-on new product development. Demonstrated success developing new physical products from concept through manufacturing. Strong mechanical design skills and proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable CAD software. Experience with electromechanical systems, motors, actuators, or controls. Knowledge of prototyping, testing, GD&T, BOMs, and design for manufacturing. Experience leading engineering projects or mentoring other engineers. Why This Opportunity? You'll work in a collaborative manufacturing environment where you can directly influence new products, solve challenging engineering problems, and see your designs come to life. If your passion is creating new products rather than simply maintaining existing ones, we'd like to hear from you.
Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 10 - 15 years Salary: $135,000 - $160,000 Annual Bonus/Commission: No

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
