About the role

Our client is seeking a Fire Alarm Engineer/Inspector to support fire alarm design, code compliance reviews, field inspections, punch list development, client coordination, and FDNY inspection support for high-end, large-scale projects across the New York City metro area. Candidates do not need to come from one specific career path to be considered. Professionals who have worked as Fire Alarm Inspectors, Fire Alarm Designers, Fire Protection Engineers, Fire Protection Consultants, Construction Project Managers, or in similar construction, life safety, inspection, or code compliance positions may have highly transferable experience for this opportunity. Candidates with knowledge of fire codes, fire alarm systems, construction processes, building inspections, or fire protection are encouraged to apply. The position offers an opportunity to expand existing expertise while developing a specialized skill set that is increasingly valuable on complex construction projects.
Key Responsibilities: Review fire alarm system designs and documentation for compliance with applicable building and fire code requirements. Conduct field inspections and pre-inspections on active construction sites throughout the NYC metro area. Identify deficiencies, document findings, and develop clear punch lists for project stakeholders. Support coordination with clients, contractors, project managers, site managers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction, including FDNY-related inspections. Use technical knowledge of the 2022 NYC Building Code to evaluate project conditions and support code-compliant outcomes. Communicate inspection results, project needs, and recommended next steps in a professional and timely manner. Collaborate with internal and external teams while managing independent field and office responsibilities. Approximately 60% field-based and 40% office-based. Regular travel to project sites across the New York City metro area.
Required Qualifications: Strong working knowledge of the 2022 NYC Building Code, especially as it relates to fire alarm systems, inspections, and code compliance. Experience in fire alarm inspection, fire alarm design, fire protection engineering, building code consulting, construction inspection, or a closely related technical field. Ability to review drawings, identify field deficiencies, and communicate technical concerns clearly. Comfort working on active construction sites and traveling to project locations throughout the NYC metro area. Strong communication, organizational, and client-facing skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating with project managers, general contractors, site managers, clients, and regulatory stakeholders. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications: Fire alarm system design or engineering experience. AutoCAD proficiency. Experience supporting FDNY inspections or working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Background as a Fire Alarm Inspector, Fire Alarm Designer, Fire Protection Engineer, Fire Protection Consultant, Construction Project Manager, or construction professional with strong building code knowledge.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
