About the role
Medical Laboratory Technician Performs hematologic, chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and microbiologic testing in a prompt and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies. May help to set up new methodologies, help develop procedural protocols, and train lab personnel in procedures and the use of instrumentation. Participates in PI activities and supports the hospital in meeting JCAHO and C.A.P. accreditation standards. Helps other departments as assigned or needed on a PRN basis. Responsible to actively participate in quality assurance/performance improvement activities to ensure processes are meeting the intended goal/outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of care provided in their respective area. Involves guidance and direction by Technologist, supervisor and/or department director. The MLT is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience. Hospital rooms, common areas, clinical departments, and hospital grounds. Potential hazards include: Exposure to - None - Some - Frequent - Very Frequent • toxic/caustic chemicals • blood or body fluids • extreme conditions, hot or cold • communicable diseases • dust/fumes/gases • unprotected heights • moving mechanical arts • CRT (computer) Monitor • potential electric shock • frequent, repetitive motions • x-ray electromagnetic energy • Moderate Level of Noise • high pitched Noises • Lifts weights up to 50 lbs. Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers. Requires frequent walking, standing, sitting and reaching. Occasionally may require olfactory or color discrimination. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks and safety glasses. This is a PRN position
