About the role

Director of Field Testing Our client — a leader in the power systems and utilities space — is looking for a Director of Field-Testing Engineering to own field-testing strategy and lead from the front on some of the most technically demanding projects in the industry. This is a senior leadership seat built for someone who wants real autonomy, real earning upside, and the freedom to run field operations their way — without giving up the technical work that got them here. You'll set the strategy, mentor top-tier engineering teams, and stay hands-on with customers in the field. Key Responsibilities: Lead and own all field testing operations, driving alignment with customer requirements and project goals Serve as the technical authority — setting the standard for rigor, best practice, and safety across every field activity Build and execute strategic field-testing plans that fuel new customer acquisition and support ongoing technical projects Be the expert in the room with customers — on-site troubleshooting, real-time problem-solving, and building trust that turns into long-term partnerships Mentor and grow field engineering teams, building a culture of technical excellence and customer obsession Draft proposals, scope projects, estimate labor/equipment costs, and own project logistics end-to-end Partner with sales, product, and engineering leadership to translate field insight into business growth Continuously push the bar on field testing methodology and innovation
Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in field testing, commissioning, or on-site engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role Proven track record leading teams and managing complex customer projects in the field Hands-on experience with Omicron, Doble, Megger, and other industry-standard testing equipment Deep technical knowledge of power systems, industrial systems, or large-scale infrastructure Exceptional customer engagement skills — you build relationships that last Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning ability Willingness to travel to support customer sites
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's in Engineering Background in power, renewables, or large-scale industrial sectors Comfort with digital tools for field data collection and analysisPMP or other project management certification
Role Summary: This is a technical and commercial leadership seat. You'll: Coordinate field testing and commissioning projects at a high level Manage engineering resources and drive project execution Play a direct role in business development and client growth Be the go-to senior technical voice for customers and internal teams alike Help scale the engineering org as demand continues to outpace capacity — this is a growth story, and you'd be leading a key part of it Flexibility & Location Fully remote-friendly — work from wherever makes sense for you, provided you can support the travel cadence below. This role is designed as a coordinator/engineering-leader function, not a full-time field engineer post, so your calendar stays yours to manage between travel windows. Travel Up to 50% travel — targeted and purposeful, not constant Primary regions: Texas, California, Florida, and Eastern U.S. project sites Per diem covered during all travel
