About the role
Carpentry And Maintenance Under general supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work in carpentry and maintenance of City-owned property and facilities. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location Northwest Service Center - 6939 W Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78254 Work Hours 6:15 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday
Essential Job Functions:
Prepares form settings and performs flat-work for sidewalks, driveways, foundations, curbs, retaining walls, and wheelchair ramps. Builds and repairs concrete structures in compliance with flat-work, foundation, and ADA standards. Installs and ties various types of steel for concrete structures. Excavates, prepares, and demolishes areas for concrete forms. Performs light concrete finishing. Interprets blueprints, drawings, and instructions and operates carpentry tools and equipment. Repairs foundation structures. Installs and repairs door locks, closures, and overhead doors. Builds office furniture, including desks, bookcases, and computer stands. Installs metal studs, doors, and frames. Repairs wooden and chain-link fences. Installs and repairs glass in windows, doors, and partitions. May require frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. May supervise semi-skilled staff in carpentry and City-property maintenance.
Job Requirements:
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Three (3) years of experience in carpentry. Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
General knowledge of flat work & foundation. General knowledge of ADA Standard Specs for flat work construction. Some experience of light / construction finishing. Some experience of concrete demolition. Applicant Information Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of carpentry terminology and materials used in the trade. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Skill in using carpentry tools and equipment. Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations. Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, dust, dirt, noise, and toxic fumes and vapors.
