The incumbent of this position serves as an assistant yard supervisor to the Corrections Major. The incumbent of this position is responsible for inmates and will also serve as the second line supervisor over a Corrections Lieutenant, all Master Sergeants/Corrections, Corrections Sergeants and Cadets on A, B, C or D Team. Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is an all-male, adult facility which houses minimum, medium maximum security inmates (second largest in the State of Louisiana). Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR One year of experience in any field; OR Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service. Necessary Special Requirements An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Job Duties: Meet with the shift supervisor to discuss daily operation. Ensure that the daily Roll Call Training Topic is ready and discussed properly at roll calls. Provide supervision for the Lieutenant. In conjunction with the Unit Manager, and Colonel, this includes, but is not limited to, conducting staff meetings to discuss security operation, problems area or concerns, new directives, policies, etc., staff morale, inmate morale and any other matters affecting the overall operation. Responsible for reporting all pertinent information to the Major, Colonel, and Unit Manager. Remain on assigned post until relieved of duties. Pass on all equipment and pertinent information to relieving Captain. Periodically meet with the shift Major and Lieutenants to discuss management issues and concerns. Make rounds with the shift supervisors. Position Specific Details
Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC) The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted, or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $32.06 per hour.
This position also offers premium pay: A rate between $1.00 and $2.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay. Other Important Information
