If you enjoy working with people, stay calm under pressure, and take pride in getting things done right, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive oneWeigh postal packages, run mail through meters, and process certified, express, UPS, registered, and insured mailProcess Western Union orders and send faxes for customersSell money orders and cash payroll, personal, ADC, and social security checksSell hunting and fishing licensesBreak down and put money in utility drawers and process paid outsCount daily coupons and process refunds for customers and department-approved refundsSign on the postal department, break down, and turn off the postal registerSign on and off lottery machines, sell and redeem lottery ticketsAssist customers with dry cleaning where applicable and process bottle refundsAssist customers at registers and in other areas of the store as neededAnswer the telephone and use the intercom system using appropriate proceduresRemove trash in a timely manner and maintain a clean, organized work areaWork with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environmentMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelinesReport to work when scheduled and on timeYour SkillsSolve practical problems and interpret instructions across a variety of situations with limited standardizationPerform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages accuratelyFile, post, and organize materials; copy data accurately between records; and gather basic information as neededGuide customers and provide clear, helpful direction in a professional mannerCommunicate clearly and professionally with customers, team members, and store leadershipReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health WellnessHome Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent experience requiredOver six months up to one year of similar or related work experience preferredPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasAbility to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationExposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentAbility to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet and handling a variety of customer transactions throughout your shift. You will have continuous exposure to dirt and noise. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
