About the role

Flatbush Cats is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit working to reduce overcrowded animal shelters in New York City and prevent more cats from ending up on the street in the first place. What began as a grassroots rescue effort has grown into a $9M citywide organization addressing the root causes through affordable veterinary care, access to spay/neuter services, and community outreach. At the heart of our work is Flatbush Veterinary Clinic, a high-volume nonprofit clinic serving low-income pet owners, rescue organizations, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) volunteers throughout Brooklyn. Each year, the clinic performs more than 7,500 spay/neuter surgeries - a number that continues to grow - while providing affordable wellness and dental care to thousands of pets. By combining high-quality veterinary care with a commitment to accessibility, we're helping keep pets with their families while creating a city where more people and pets can receive the support they need.
The Opportunity: Flatbush Cats is seeking a Vice President of Development to lead and grow our fundraising efforts with a focus on long-term sustainability and impact. This role will: Shape and drive our fundraising strategy Manage and inspire a high-performing development team Personally lead major gifts and strategic partnerships Our team focuses on depth over breadth - doing a few things exceptionally well. We have tremendous momentum, growing from under $500K to $9M+ in less than five years to tackle the root causes of NYC's overcrowded animal shelter crisis. This role is about harnessing that momentum and bringing supporters together around an ambitious, shared vision for change. Flatbush Cats offers a healthy, collaborative environment with a clear focus on fundraising strategy, team leadership, and major gifts. The role is supported by a capable, growing team, an engaged board and leadership team, and realistic expectations that recognize the time needed to build donor relationships. The organization provides the space, support, and onboarding needed to succeed. This is an opportunity to build a development function at a moment of extraordinary organizational growth. The next Vice President of Development will not be stepping into an established fundraising machine; they will have the opportunity to shape the team, systems, strategy, and infrastructure that will support Flatbush Cats' next chapter. Working closely with the Executive Director and the leadership team, this person will help translate remarkable fundraising momentum into a sustainable, scalable development operation, and play a meaningful role in shaping the organization's future.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
