We manufacture high-quality parts for major aerospace customers and operate in a quality-driven environment where precision, traceability, and attention to detail are essential. We are seeking an experienced FAI Quality Inspector who is highly knowledgeable in aerospace inspection requirements and can independently perform First Article Inspections from start to finish.
Position Summary: The FAI Quality Inspector will be responsible for performing detailed inspections of aerospace precision-machined components and completing AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with customer, engineering, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and inspection requirements, as well as hands-on experience using CMMs and other precision inspection equipment. This position requires someone who can work independently, identify discrepancies, communicate issues clearly, and ensure that all inspection documentation is accurate, complete, and traceable.
Key Responsibilities: Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) on CNC-machined aerospace and defense components. Prepare, complete, and review AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports, including Forms 1, 2, and 3.Interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings, including GD&T, datum structures, feature control frames, positional tolerances, profile tolerances, and geometric requirements. Verify parts against engineering drawings, models, specifications, purchase orders, and customer requirements. Review and verify material certifications, special process certifications, and other supporting documentation required for FAI packages. Ensure proper traceability of materials, processes, inspections, and documentation. Identify nonconformances and work with Quality, Engineering, Programming, and Production personnel to resolve discrepancies. Assist with root-cause investigations and corrective actions related to inspection findings. Perform in-process and final inspections as needed. Review inspection results for accuracy and completeness prior to customer submission. Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation. Support customer audits and respond to customer FAI-related questions. Assist with maintaining and improving inspection procedures and quality processes. Ensure compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable aerospace quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and controlled inspection environment. Perform other quality-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: 3+ years of hands-on experience performing First Article Inspections in an aerospace manufacturing environment. Strong working knowledge of AS9102 and aerospace FAI requirements. Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.Experience inspecting CNC-machined aerospace components, preferably complex precision parts. Experience with CMM inspection equipment and software. Proficiency with precision inspection tools and measurement equipment. Ability to independently identify drawing requirements and develop an appropriate inspection approach. Strong understanding of dimensional inspection, tolerances, datums, geometric controls, and inspection methods. Experience reviewing material and special-process certifications for FAI documentation. Strong computer skills and ability to maintain accurate electronic quality records. Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills. Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with Quality, Engineering, Programming, and Production.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with PC-DMIS and/or Calypso. Experience programming CMMs rather than simply operating them. Knowledge of AS9100 quality systems. Experience with aerospace customer requirements and documentation. Experience working with Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Sikorsky, Boeing, Gulfstream, or other major aerospace customers. Experience with complex 5-axis CNC-machined components. Familiarity with customer-specific FAI requirements and electronic submission systems. Experience with FAI revisions, partial/repeated FAIs, and delta FAIs. Knowledge of NADCAP special processes and aerospace material/process certifications.
