Transportation Driver/Monitor The Transportation Driver/Monitor is a dual-role position responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of individuals served by Amivie. Employees in this role must be able to perform the responsibilities of both Driver and Monitor as assigned. This position requires adherence to all transportation policies, safety procedures, and state regulations while ensuring the well-being, dignity, and supervision of individuals during transport to and from facilities, residences, and community activities.
General Responsibilities: (Applicable to Both Driver and Monitor Roles)Follow all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to transportation and Community Based Care (CBC) services. Conduct a visual inspection of the vehicle prior to each route to ensure safety and operational readiness. Report to work on time and remain available for route changes, substitutions, or scheduling adjustments as needed. Safely load and unload individuals and operate wheelchair lifts when required. Ensure individuals are properly transferred to the next responsible party (family member, host home staff, program staff, etc.) through direct visual confirmation before leaving the cleanliness and organization of vehicles and transportation supplies. Report all moving violations, regardless of whether they occur during work hours, in accordance with CBC Driver Policy. Provide at least two weeks' notice for planned absences from scheduled transportation shifts and promptly communicate unexpected absences to the Transportation Scheduler.
Driver Responsibilities: Safely transporting individuals to and from facilities, residences, and community-based activities using approved routes and procedures. Complying with all state and local traffic laws and safe driving practices. Ensuring all seat belts, wheelchair restraints, and tie-downs are properly secured before operating the vehicle. Conducting a post-route vehicle sweep after unloading to ensure no individual is left unattended on the vehicle. Monitoring fuel levels before and after routes and refueling vehicles when necessary after all passengers have exited the vehicle.
Monitor Responsibilities: Sitting in a position within the vehicle that allows clear visibility of all individuals being transported. Assisting with loading and unloading individuals and monitoring behaviors, safety, and support needs during transport. Serving as a backup driver when needed. Providing navigation assistance to the driver when necessary. Communicating with transportation dispatch while the vehicle is in motion, allowing the driver to remain focused on safe operation of the vehicle.
Qualifications: Must be an employee of Amivie. Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required. Current vehicle insurance required. Successful completion of criminal background and motor vehicle record checks. High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of all required employee training and have access to a cellphone for emergency communication and approved hands-free GPS use in accordance with agency policy. Personal cellphone use during transportation duties is prohibited except for authorized purposes. Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, including lifting, transferring individuals, operating wheelchair lifts, and securing mobility equipment safely.
Training Requirements: Complete all agency-required driver training curriculum and state-mandated training for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).For Day Programs and ADTs, Drivers and Monitors must review and acknowledge the IPOP – Information for Transportation Form in Therap for all individuals they transport, regardless of whether they provide direct support services outside of transportation duties.
