Position Summary: We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Training & Documentation Consultant with an Industrial Engineering/Process Engineering background to develop and standardize training materials for manufacturing and warehouse operations. The consultant will work extensively on the production floor, partnering with operators, supervisors, engineers, quality, and other SMEs to document current processes and develop practical, visual training materials. This is not a check-the-box documentation role. The materials will be used to train employees and managers on current operations and support the launch of a new production line transferred from a closing plant, with a focus on efficiency, consistency, quality, and safety.
Key Responsibilities: Observe and document manufacturing, assembly, testing, warehouse, receiving, kitting, and material-handling processes. Develop and maintain: SOPs and Standard Work Instructions Job Instructions and OJT materials Training guides and qualification documents Process flows, checklists, and visual work aids Create clear, operator-friendly documentation using photos, diagrams, process parameters, safety requirements, and quality checkpoints. Work directly with operators and SMEs to validate processes and eliminate tribal knowledge. Identify process variation and Continuous Improvement opportunities. Support Lean/Industrial Engineering initiatives and incorporate improved methods into Standard Work. Develop training/qualification matrices and support new-hire and cross-training programs. Conduct floor audits to ensure documented processes match actual operations. Establish document revision control and sustainable processes for updating training materials.
Required Qualifications: 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, training, technical writing, or Continuous Improvement. Strong experience developing SOPs, Standard Work, OJT, Job Instructions, or manufacturing training materials. Hands-on experience working with hourly manufacturing or warehouse employees. Strong technical writing and visual documentation skills. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, and Visio or similar tools. Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, and Continuous Improvement. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Experience with ISO/regulated manufacturing environments is preferred. Experience with training matrices or qualification programs is a plus. Top 3
