About the role
- A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Supervisor and clinical direction of the pulmonary physicians who are diplomats of the ABSM. The technologist provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.
- Assist in ordering supplies, helping with quality assurance
- Assist with scheduling PM Sleep Technicians
- Gather & review patient information -histories, medications, procedure request and study protocol
- Explain procedures and orient patient to sleep lab
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting
- Follow procedural protocols (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc. to ensure collection of appropriate dataFollow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values
- Perform polysomnographic data acquisition
- Document routine observations
- Implement appropriate interventions
- Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process
- Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events
- Generate accurate reports
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations & guidelines
- Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluations
- All other duties as assigned
- Successful completion of an accredited polysomnographic program leading to an associate's degree with emphasis on polysomnography
- Successful completion of an accredited polysomnographic program with emphasis on polysomnography or completion of ASTEP Program
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists required OR Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) upon hire with RPSGT obtained within 6 months of hireBLS certification required
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a Polysomnographic Technician preferred.
