About the role

Mental Health Counselor | 12–35 Hours per Week Smith Medical Clinic | Georgetown County, South Carolina | In Person with Telehealth Flexibility
Pay: $35–$45 per hour, based on experience Smith Medical Clinic provides free health care to low-income, uninsured adults in Georgetown County. We are seeking compassionate mental health counselors to provide therapy to patients who often face significant barriers to care. We’re looking to provide about 30 hours of counseling each week and can build that schedule around one clinician or two part-time clinicians. For someone seeking more hours, the position could extend to 35 hours per week. In-person care at our Georgetown or Pawleys Island locations can be supplemented by telehealth. You will work alongside our primary care team so patients can receive coordinated support for both their physical and mental health.
What you’ll do: Provide individual counseling and develop practical treatment plans with patients. Assess mental health needs, document care, and coordinate with SMC’s clinical team when appropriate. Help patients navigate concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, stress, and the challenges of living with chronic illness. Identify patients who need a higher level of care and assist with appropriate referrals.
What we’re looking for: A South Carolina licensed mental health professional qualified to provide independent counseling, such as an LPC or LISW-CP.Experience working with adults and sound judgment about risk assessment and referrals. A warm, respectful approach to people from varied backgrounds. Comfort collaborating with medical providers and documenting care in a clinical setting. You would join a team that knows its patients and believes access to counseling is an essential part of health care. If this work interests you, tell us what schedule would fit your life. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
