Job Summary: The Business Analyst is responsible for the requirements gathering, evaluation, analysis, and recommendation for solutions to meet userand departmental technology needs. The core functions includeconducting needs assessments, identifying requirements, conductinggap analyses, working with developers and vendors, and managingprojects to implement technology solutions. The Business Analyst will be proactive in their approach todocument and recommend improvements in business processes to ensureusers/departments have the most up-to-date technological solutionsto perform their jobs and serve the university communityeffectively. This position provides business analysis, project management, custom solution development, support, and overall Information Technology expertise.
Key Responsibilities: Work with departments and assemble teams of experts to gatherand document requirements. Document current and proposed future state business processes, workflows and use cases. Develop gap analysis and prioritized requirements Develop test plans aligned with requirements and future state; and coordinate teams to ensure that processes are tested andvalidated. Ensure quality solutions are delivered that meet requirementsand enhance business capabilities. Develop relationships with businesses, collaborating tooptimize and enhance their use of applications and solutions. Lead cross-functional business process re-engineering teams tobest utilize applications capabilities. Develop project documentation as needed, including Project Scope, Requirements, Design, Test plans, and Support plans. Create detailed project and implementation plans incollaboration with departmental personnel. Working with other IT groups and business teams manageexecution of project plans during all phases – analysis, design, development, and implementation. Design, build and configure new custom solutions that meetdefined business requirements. Enhance existing solutions as needs are identified andprioritized. Test and deploy new and enhanced solutions. Define and document operational and maintenance proceduresrequired for developed solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thorough and advanced knowledge of business systems analysisconcepts, principles, practices, and methodologies. Ability to learn, analyze, define, enhance, document, andrecommend improvements to business processes and workflows. Advanced business analysis skills, including requirementsgathering, needs assessment, gap analysis, process mapping, anddevelopment of current- and future-state processes. Advanced analytical and research skills to evaluate systems, applications, emerging technologies, and alternative solutions tomeet business and departmental needs. Excellent project management skills, including the ability todevelop and manage project plans, establish priorities anddeadlines, coordinate resources, monitor progress, and successfullydeliver multiple complex projects within scope, budget, andtimelines. Working knowledge of waterfall and agile project managementmethodologies and practices. Advanced communication, interpersonal, and customer serviceskills, with the ability to establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships with users, technical staff, vendors, andstakeholders in a diverse and multicultural environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including theability to document requirements, processes, recommendations, project status, and technical information clearly andeffectively. Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and manage multipleprojects, tasks, and competing priorities simultaneously. Ability to work effectively with vendors, participate in usergroups, and support vendor evaluation and managementactivities. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new applicationsoftware, systems, tools, and technologies. Strong logical and analytical reasoning skills to diagnose andresolve computer-related and systems issues. Ability to apply security policies, models, frameworks, andpractices to ensure appropriate protection of systems andinformation. Strong knowledge of IT service management processes, includingITIL support operations and Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.
Required Qualifications: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfullyapplied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted forthe required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degreein a related field may be substituted for the required experienceon a year-for-year basis. Four (4) years of relevant experience.
