Reports To: Building Principal
Job Goal: To ensure that students and staff have the ability to find, retrieve, use and cite information and ideas in all formats and to possess the skills necessary to use existing technologies when manipulating information.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Creates an environment that fosters use by students and staff.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of the school library media center.
  • Utilizes the library budget, keeping records of all expenditures.
  • Orders and curates library books.
  • Follows corporation policy for library purchasing.
  • Promotes media programs for students, faculty, parents, school committees, and the community.
  • Maintains an efficient system of classifying, cataloging, and circulating all library materials; instructs teachers and students in the use of the library system.
  • Keeps records of student use, circulation, purchases, and losses.
  • Supervises the regular inventory of library materials, evaluates the collection, weeds obsolete and worn materials, and updates inventory records and the catalog.
  • Displays materials to promote use of library information center materials.
  • Works cooperatively with many groups within the school culture: parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community members.
  • Assists teachers in integrating library/media center services and instruction with classroom learning.
  • Informs teachers, students, and administrators about the arrival of new materials.
  • Serves as a resource person on digital literacy to administrators, teachers, and students.
  • Helps students develop attitudes, habits, and skills leading to lifelong library use.
  • Provides group and individual instruction in information skills, research strategies, and the use of resources and equipment.
  • Facilitates student development of independent library-information skills.
  • Guides students in materials selection.
  • Coordinates, organizes and hosts the school Book Fair.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Terms of Employment: 194 Day, 7.5 hour days
  • Evaluation: Classified Staff Evaluation completed by the Principal/Assistant Principal/Dean
