I'm working with a well-established, growing commercial plumbing contractor in Southern California to find a General Manager for its commercial & residential service division. The company handles service and repair, tenant improvements and design-build construction for commercial & residential customers, and provides 24/7 emergency service. This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for the service business: profit and loss, operations, people and customers. You'll lead a large fleet of service technicians and the office team that supports them, and you'll help grow the division as part of the company's expansion.
What You'll Do:
Business Leadership & Profit and LossOwn the service division's profit and loss, including revenue, gross margin, labor efficiency and overhead Build and manage the annual budget, forecasts and growth plan with executive leadership Set pricing strategy and improve job costing, billing accuracy and cash collection Track and report key numbers, including revenue per technician, billable hours, close rates, callbacks and service agreement renewals OperationsOversee daily service operations: dispatch, scheduling, technician productivity, parts and inventory, and the vehicle fleet Ensure fast, high-quality response for emergency and 24/7 service calls Standardize service processes, quoting and field reporting through service management software Work with the construction and project teams on handoffs, tenant improvement work and cross-selling People & Culture Lead, hire, coach and keep service managers, dispatchers, estimators, service sales staff and field technicians Build a strong safety culture and make sure safety programs and regulations are followed Create training paths and career growth for apprentices, journeymen and field leaders Hold managers and teams to clear performance standards and accountability Customers & GrowthGrow the division through new commercial accounts, service agreements and preventive maintenance programs Build strong relationships with property managers, facility directors, general contractors and national accounts Lead the response to escalated customer issues and protect service quality and the company's reputation Find new markets, service lines and growth opportunities What You Bring
Required:
10+ years in commercial plumbing or mechanical service, including 5+ years leading a service department, branch or division Proven profit and loss responsibility, with a record of growing revenue and improving margins Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, including water heaters, backflow, drain and sewer, repiping, fixtures and pumps Experience leading large field service teams and managing dispatch, scheduling and fleet operations Strong financial skills, including budgeting, job costing, pricing and KPI management Proficiency with service management software such as Service Titan or similar, and Microsoft Office Excellent leadership, communication and customer relationship skills
Preferred:
- Journeyman or master plumber background, or a C-36 Plumbing Contractor license
- Experience with service agreements, preventive maintenance programs and national accounts
- Background in a growth-focused or multi-location services company
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Bachelor's degree in business, construction management or a related fieldJOB ID
