About the role
Key Responsibilities:
1. Special Education Compliance & Accountability Maintain and update the school's special education compliance calendar and ensure all required actions are completed by their deadlines. Execute and track evaluations, eligibility meetings, IEPs, reevaluations, amendments, progress reports, and other required special education activities. Complete required special education documentation and maintain accurate student records. Execute and monitor compliance with IDEA, Section 504, OSSE requirements, and District of Columbia regulations.2. IEP & Evaluation Management Serve as the back up case manager or primary coordinator for assigned students and personally manage the IEP process from beginning to completion. Draft and complete IEP documents, including present levels, goals, accommodations, services, and other required components. Facilitate IEP Team meetings and ensure required participants have an opportunity to provide input. Create and coordinate initial evaluations, reevaluations, eligibility meetings, and related documentation for all stakeholders Track all evaluation and IEP timelines and take action to ensure all deadlines are met.3. Service Delivery & Student Outcomes Review each student's IEP and communicate required services, accommodations, and modifications directly to the staff responsible for implementation. Create and maintain service schedules for special education and related services. Regularly verify that IEP services are actually being delivered as required. Review service logs, teacher documentation, and other evidence of service delivery. Follow up with staff when services are missed, incomplete, or incorrectly delivered. Coordinate transition planning for students preparing for graduation and postsecondary education, employment, or independent living.4. Staff & Family Support Meet and provide assistance to teachers and service providers to review student needs, accommodations, services, and progress. Respond to parent/guardian questions and concerns and ensure timely follow-up. Participate in difficult or complex parent meetings and help resolve concerns related to special education services.5.
