The role supports both office and laboratory/industrial environments. Core hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Business needs may occasionally require work before or after core hours to support operations, troubleshooting, commissioning, or project work. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
Position Summary: FM is seeking an Automation, Operational Technology & Digital Systems Engineer to support the operation, development, and reliability of industrial control systems across the Research Campus. This position reports to the manager responsible for the Research Campus Data Operations Group and collaborates with researchers, engineers, supervisors, and technicians to support daily site operations, operational readiness, and digital capabilities. The engineer will also lead assigned projects with limited supervision based on evolving business needs. This is a multi-level engineering opportunity, with the scope and responsibilities aligned to the selected candidate’s relevant experience, technical expertise, and demonstrated capabilities.
What You’ll Do: The Engineer will support Research, FM Approvals, and campus support teams in the daily operation of the Research Campus industrial control systems (ICS).Systems Engineering –the engineer will be responsible for the maintenance and development of control systems, selecting appropriate components, detailing schematic and P&ID diagrams, producing and maintaining system documentation, programming Allen Bradley controllers, programming the process visualization (HMI/SCADA), Alarm management, developing databases for archiving/displaying historical OSIsoft PI data, Ignition digital transformation, commissioning the control systems, and PID loop tuning. System Operator - The Engineer will act as first level escalation support for the control system technicians in setting up and restoring equipment to operational readiness. The Controls Engineer would assist with design, detail and implementation of Operation Technology (OT) infrastructure, IT/OT integration using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP,  Modbus, etc.).Digital Twin application and data stream owner The Engineer will be assigned project work based on the current needs of the business and will be expected to execute these projects with limited supervision. The majority of project work will include ICS related disciplines; however, project work in other disciplines may be assigned based on need.
Qualifications: A minimum of 3 years of professional experience with industrial control systems is required; 5-10+ years is preferred.
Technical Skills: Required knowledge of Ladder Logic and Function Block Diagram programming; knowledge of Python and Structured Text is preferred. Required experience with the Allen-Bradley Control Logix programmable logic controller platform, Studio 5000 Logix Designer, and Factory Talk View Site Edition. Experience with industrial networks and systems, including Ether Net/Industrial Protocol, Control Net, Building Automation and Control Networks, motor-control systems, variable-frequency drives, and electrical motor-control-center distribution systems. Advanced knowledge of supervisory control and data acquisition systems and the implementation of safety interlocks and controls across multiple platforms. Experience with electronics and wiring systems is preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD, LabVIEW, Microsoft Word and Excel, or similar applications, with strong general computer skills. Ability to use ladders and man lifts to access equipment and work safely in laboratory environments that may include hot, sooty, or wet surfaces. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided. Soft and Collaboration Skills Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead technical work across cross-functional teams. Self-directed and adaptable, with the ability to manage change and competing priorities effectively. Collaborative approach and ability to thrive in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. EducationA bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is required. Relevant work experience and technical certifications may be considered as an alternative. The hiring range for this position is $94,000 - $173,000 a year. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
