The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare. Environmental Scientist Manager vacancy The manager leads three units: the Permit Application Administrative Review Group, the Public Participation & Database Support Group, and LELAP. The section administratively reviews permit applications, processes Notification of Change (NOC-1) forms, maintains certain aspects of TEMPO, issues public notices and schedules and conducts public hearings for draft permits in the air, water, solid waste, and hazardous waste programs. It also accredits the environmental laboratories whose data the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality relies on.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus four years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing. Job Duties: Manages the Permit Application Administrative Review (PAAR) group, the Public Participation and Database Support Group (PPG-DSG) group, and the Louisiana Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (LELAP) group of the Permit Support and LELAP Section (PLS). Directs PLS activities; ensures work processes are efficient, strategic and operational plan commitments are met, and staff receive appropriate training. Reviews Notification of Change (NOC-1) letters, LELAP reports and correspondence, and public notices. Manages the LELAP contract assessor Request for Proposal process; present the Department in workgroups and meetings; assists in the preparation of regulations. Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
