Pipewelder
General Function: The pipewelder welds together piping metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders or oral instructions. The pipewelder utilizes knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials including the specifications of the particular equipment to be used in the process.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities: Weld up prefabricated piping components using various welding procedures as outlined in blueprints or specifications. Chips off excess weld, slag and splatter using a power grinder, chipping gun or manual hammer.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of pipe welding procedures and safety requirements. Required Experience & Training: 3 years of pipe welding experience is required but vocational training is acceptable. In some cases ABS (American Bureau of Ship Building) certification is required which confirms their competency indifferent areas of pipe welding procedures.
