Description of the Position: To assist the Northfield Public Library in executing a successful Celebrate Asia Pasifika program in collaboration with St. Olaf College Asian Studies and the Svoboda Center for Civic Engagement. Start date in January 2027. The event is scheduled for May 1, 2027; this employee must be available for the day of the event. Transferable Skills: Event planning: Work with library staff to plan and execute community event drawing 1,000+ community members. Social media management: Create content promoting community event using Facebook and Instagram channels. Communication skills: Communicate with student groups, community partners, vendors, and performers to coordinate participation in community event.
Duties and Responsibilities: Assist Adult Programming & Outreach Librarian in planning a large-scale community event held in May. Communicate with St. Olaf student groups regarding music and dance performances for the Celebrate Asia Pasifika event. Contribute to the creation of promotional materials such as brochures, posters, flyers, and book displays to effectively market the Celebrate Asia Pasifika event. Promote and coordinate day-of volunteer opportunities to support the Celebrate Asia Pasifika event. Offer assistance with event setup, execution, and takedown on Saturday, May 1, 2027.Complete additional library support tasks as assigned.
Schedule: 6-8 hours/week, days and times to be determined with supervisor.
Qualifications: Reliable. Enjoyment in working with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds and comfortability in a public service environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Good communication skills (oral and written.)Experience or strong interest in event or program planning. Ability to engage with diverse backgrounds. Experience or strong interest in public relations and marketing. Experience and involvement with St. Olaf student groups is preferred but not required. Physical and Environmental Factors: This position requires crouching, stooping, kneeling/crawling, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, wet or humid conditions indoors, and extreme heat to perform the essential functions.
