About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support a founder-owned specialty food importer and distributor. This role is based onsite in Edison, NJ, five days per week. The Senior Accountant will oversee daily accounting operations and help maintain accurate inventory and cost controls, financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance filings, and accounting records. This role will work closely with company leadership and an outside accounting firm and is well suited for a detail-oriented professional who values accuracy, accountability, collaboration, and ownership.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage daily and month-end accounting activities, including general ledger accounting
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and support payroll activities
- Maintain accurate inventory and cost controls for imported goods
- Track and evaluate landed costs and reconcile accounting records to warehouse inventory
- Compile financial data and prepare supporting reports for the company’s outside accounting firm
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records
- Support compliance with applicable financial regulations and standard tax filings
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting1–3 years of accounting experience
- Experience with cost accounting and inventory control
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and take ownership of day-to-day accounting responsibilities
- Ability to work onsite in Edison, NJ five days per week
Nice to Have:
- Experience within food importing, distribution, or a related industry
- Familiarity with landed-cost accounting for imported inventory
- Experience working in a founder-owned or closely held business environment
Work Environment:
This position is primarily sedentary with occasional movement throughout the facility, including reaching, bending, and moving light equipment or supplies. The role may require entering warehouse and repack areas and wearing required food-safety and OSHA protective equipment. The facility processes nuts, grains, dried fruits, and chocolate, and employees may be exposed to these ingredients.
