About the role
Purpose : Five Star Bank’s Summer Associate Program is designed to develop the next generation of financial services professionals to help us advance our vision of being an independent, high-performing community bank. Our IT Internship Program offers hands-on experience across several dynamic areas including Digital Banking, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Engineering and IT Operations. What You’ll Do:
Depending on your area of focus, you may: Digital Banking: Assist in developing and enhancing digital platforms that improve customer experience and drive engagement. Systems Engineering: Support infrastructure projects, help maintain system performance, and contribute to automation initiatives. Software Engineering: Collaborate on application development, testing, and deployment using modern programming languages and frameworks. IT Operations: Monitor systems, troubleshoot issues, and gain exposure to service management and operational excellence. Data Engineering: Advance the Bank’s data catalog, helping create a more accessible and well-governed data environment.
What We’re Looking For:
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, with a junior-level standing or higher preferred. Candidates must be available to work a hybrid work model, 40 hours per week for the duration of the program starting in June. Occasional travel within corporate footprint (Buffalo and Rochester) will also be required. At least 1 year in one or more club(s), volunteerism efforts, or other activities outside of the classroom Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Familiarity with programming languages, cloud platforms, or IT service tools is a plus. Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate the standards and principles of the Five Star Bank experience in every interaction with internal customers, associates, and stakeholders. Incorporate the high-performance behaviors of teamwork, leading by example and serve in every facet of work.
Competencies:
Familiarity with basic IT concepts including networking, servers, and cybersecurity fundamentals Strong problem-solving skills and attention to technical detail Ability to document processes and follow technical procedures accurately Effective communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and end-users Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to Windows Server, Active Directory, or networking tools is a plus
What You’ll Gain:

You’ll work closely with a dedicated infrastructure team focused on delivering secure, reliable technology solutions for community banking operations. You’ll be paired with a mentor and manager committed to your professional growth, and you’ll join a cohort of interns from various departments to share insights and network. This job description is not exhaustive. The Summer Associate may be required to perform other duties as assigned. The expected rate of pay for this position is shown above. Compensation offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education and, where applicable, licenses or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to your base rate of pay and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates may be eligible to receive cash or equity-based incentives based on the role and performance.
