Position Summary: The Division Controller owns the financial performance management process for the division and serves as the primary financial advisor to the Division President. The role is responsible for accounting, reporting, planning, analysis, working capital, and financial controls. The role provides accurate and timely financial information, analysis, and insights to support operational, commercial, and strategic decision-making. The Division Controller will lead the monthly close and financial reporting process, budgeting and forecasting, cost accounting and inventory control, monitor overall financial performance, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. The role works closely with senior finance leadership to drive financial visibility, operational excellence, profitability, and continuous improvement across the division. The Division Controller is locatedon-site in Grand Rapids, MI .The successful candidate will be a strategic business partner to the Division President and a key member of both the division leadership team and finance organization. Combining strong technical accounting expertise with business acumen and operational insight, the Division Controller will influence decisions, drive accountability, and translate financial information into actions that improve performance and create shareholder value.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Division President to improve financial and operational performance of the division
  • Serve as a key member of the division leadership team, providing financial guidance and operational leadership to the organization
  • Collaborate with senior finance leadership to improve financial reporting, analysis, and performance management
  • Translate financial results into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making
  • Specific Responsibilities
  • Lead/own the month-end close process for the division
  • Maintain a monthly close checklist; ensure timely, accurate month-end close and complete financial reporting
  • Monitor performance against budget and prior year and provide clear explanations of key variances
  • Prepare and present division financials and performance to senior leadership; identify significant variances, trends, and areas requiring management attention
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and other accounting processes
  • Develop and maintain profitability reporting by product line, SKU, customer, and channel
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, including material, labor, and overhead, and provide variance explanations and improvement insights to leadership
  • Monitor monthly inventory levels, variances, and reserves
  • Monitor and improve working capital performance, including inventory, receivables, and payables
  • Ensure intercompany accounts reconcile and eliminate
  • Work with cost accounting leadership to develop and implement year-end standard cost updates
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for the division in partnership with operational and functional leaders and finance
  • Assist senior finance and executive leadership with special projects
