About the role

Building Trades Career Exploration Instructor At Orleans Technical College (a program of JEVS Human Services), we are committed to helping students gain the hands-on skills and technical knowledge they need to succeed in today's workforce. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Building Trades Instructor to teach and mentor young adults and high school students in the fundamentals of the construction trades, including safety, math, carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. Under the supervision of the Academic Affairs Director, the Building Trades Instructor will deliver engaging, hands-on instruction and theory in safety, math, and other basics of the trades. This position is part-time, day shift. Key responsibilities include teaching students in the fundamentals of the building trades, supervising and evaluating students during hands-on lab and shop activities, assessing student learning through written tests, practical demonstrations, and performance evaluations, preparing and updating lesson plans, instructional materials, and course curricula, using a variety of instructional methods and media to engage learners throughout the class day, ensuring consistent adherence to all safety, classroom, and school rules, maintaining clean, organized classroom and shop environments, tracking student attendance, grades, and progress, ordering and maintaining materials, tools, and supplies in a timely and accurate manner, collaborating with Student & Career Services to support student success and job placement, incorporating employer and Program Advisory Committee feedback into instructional improvements, participating in professional development to stay current in instructional methods and industry trends, assisting in new instructor onboarding and training as needed, and participating in graduation ceremonies and other school events. Qualifications include at least 3 years of experience in the building trades, strong communication and classroom management skills, commitment to student development and hands-on learning, and the ability to maintain a safe, professional, and engaging learning environment.
