About the role
Senior Technical Project Architect | New York CityWe’re partnering with an established, design-led architecture and planning practice in New York that has built a strong reputation for delivering sophisticated, highly technical environments. The firm combines the resources and project opportunities of a larger practice with a collaborative culture where senior architects remain closely involved in the work. They’re looking to add a Senior Technical Project Architect who can take ownership of the technical delivery of complex projects—from early design development through documentation and construction. This is an opportunity for an experienced architect who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, leading teams, and making sure strong design intent translates successfully into built work.
The Role:
You’ll act as a senior technical leader across major architectural projects, working alongside project and design leadership while guiding internal teams and external consultants.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading technical delivery from design development through construction
- Directing and reviewing architectural documentation produced by project teams
- Coordinating drawings and models across architecture, engineering, specialty consultants, and contractors
- Taking ownership of technical detailing, constructability, code compliance, material decisions, and specifications
- Establishing and maintaining high standards for Revit/BIM documentation
- Identifying technical and coordination issues early and driving them through resolution
- Partnering with project leadership to keep deliverables aligned with scope, schedule, staffing, and budget
- Participating in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders
- Providing senior-level technical guidance when challenging issues arise
- Leading technical activities during construction, including RFIs, submittal reviews, field observations, and issue resolution
- Helping improve firmwide approaches to documentation, quality assurance, and technical delivery
- Mentoring architects and designers and helping develop the technical capabilities of the wider team
What We’re Looking For: You’ll likely bring:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
- Professional architectural licensure 15+ years of architectural practice experience
- Significant experience delivering large or technically demanding projects
- At least 5 years working within sectors such as healthcare, research/laboratory, academic, institutional, or similarly complex building types
- Strong experience taking projects through documentation and construction
- Advanced Revit skills and a strong understanding of BIM-based project delivery
- Deep knowledge of building systems, detailing, construction methods, codes, and specifications
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams
- Confidence communicating with clients, contractors, consultants, and senior project stakeholders
- A track record of leading and developing project teams
- Strong judgment and the ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges
- Why Consider It?
- This role offers the chance to join a respected architecture practice working on substantial, technically challenging projects in New York and beyond.
- Rather than being limited to production or documentation, you’ll have genuine influence over how projects are detailed, coordinated, documented, and ultimately built.
- For a senior architect who wants to remain close to project delivery while becoming a trusted technical leader within a collaborative design environment, this could be an excellent next move.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
