Working under the guidance of healthcare faculty and the Healthcare Lab Manager, lab assistants prepare and maintain a variety of laboratory environments in which healthcare skills are demonstrated and practiced. A significant component of the position involves organizing, maintaining, and managing an extensive inventory of healthcare supplies and equipment. Performs a variety of procedures to support laboratory setup for healthcare programs, with a strong emphasis on nursing programs. Maintains detailed knowledge of supply and equipment inventory and assists with inventory organization and management. Applies appropriate sanitation techniques and laboratory safety practices. Quickly locates and prepares supplies and equipment as instructional needs arise. Cleans and maintains healthcare education laboratory spaces and equipment. Communicates frequently with co-workers, supervisors, students, administrators, and faculty to discuss and plan detailed laboratory setup needs. Provides guidance to work-study students assisting with laboratory setup, cleanup, and inventory management. Refers non-routine issues to appropriate supervision. Demonstrates commitment to the educational quality and success of students in Piedmont Virginia Community College healthcare programs and to serving as a trusted, professional, and reliable resource for Piedmont Virginia Community College healthcare program faculty. Assumes broader and increasingly responsible assignments as competencies are developed Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook to organize information, maintain records, and communicate with others. Experience organizing, tracking, stocking, or maintaining supplies, equipment, or inventory in a workplace, educational, healthcare, or similar setting. Experience following detailed written and verbal instructions to accurately prepare materials, supplies, equipment, or workspaces for scheduled activities. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple individuals or groups to meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities. Ability to safely lift, carry, move, and properly store supplies and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Experience in a healthcare clinical setting. Current or previous healthcare certification or licensure. Experience providing instruction or guidance to groups.
