About the role

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) when required; review and approve geotechnical analyses, reports, recommendations, and design documents for technical accuracy, constructability, and risk management.
  • Manage geotechnical projects from proposal through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, client coordination, quality, and technical delivery.
  • Lead and review seismic hazard analyses based on seismic code and site-specific response analyses, static and seismic subsurface site characterization, seismic geotechnical hazard evaluation (i.e. soil liquefaction, cyclic softening, seismic slope instability and lateral spread), earthquake-related evaluations for shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, and ground improvement, and soil-structure interaction for seismic performance-based design.
  • Develop and maintain seismic geotechnical design guidance, procedures, and technical standards aligned with AASHTO, FHWA, andapplicable industry requirements for transportation infrastructure.
  • Perform senior technical reviews of complex geotechnical deliverables, including bridge/wall foundation investigations, soil surveys, specialty foundation studies, and PDA/WEAP evaluations.
  • Provide technical guidance on subsurface exploration, foundations, earthwork, slope stability, retaining structures, and geotechnical construction issues.
  • Mentor engineers and project managers; develop and deliver technical training in earthquake engineering, seismic analysis, geotechnical design, and reporting practices.
  • Support construction/maintenance investigations, peer reviews, research, special projects, proposal development, and client/industry engagement. Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering; Georgia Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience, with majority of the experience on transportation/DOT infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience and demonstrated expertise in geotechnical earthquake engineering, seismic analyses, liquefaction, and coastal geotechnical conditions, particularly within the Southeastern United States.
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO and FHWA seismic/geotechnical criteria and proficiency with relevant geotechnical and seismic analysis software.
  • Demonstrated project-management experience, strong technical judgment, and excellent technical writing, communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment and travel to Georgia occasionally as project needs require. Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Master's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical or earthquake engineering focus.
  • PhD in earthquake engineering will count as 3 years towards the total experience required in earthquake engineering.
  • Experience as a senior technical reviewer, EOR, seismic SME, or technical lead for transportation agencies or major infrastructure programs; experience developing seismic design guidance and technical training is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) and performance-based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance; retirement savings plan; paid time off; and flexible remote work arrangements.
  • Professional development opportunities, including continuing education and certifications. Avaabi Consulting Ltd is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an equitable and inclusive work environment for all employees

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
